Ann Wilson

Associate Director of Bands

Ann M. Wilson currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Villa Rica High School (VRHS) in Villa Rica, Georgia, where she is in her fourth year on faculty. In this role, she supports both middle and high school band operations, conducts the VRHS Symphonic Band, leads the VR Midnight Jazz Cats, and co-sponsors the school’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Under her leadership, her ensembles consistently earn Superior ratings at Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Performance Evaluations.​

 

Ms. Wilson led the VRHS Trombone Sextet in a lobby group performance at the 2023 GMEA In-Service Conference and supported the VRHS Wind Symphony’s appearance at the 2024 conference. Most recently, the VR Midnight Jazz Cats were selected to perform at both the 2026 Minority Band Directors National Association (MBDNA) Concert and Jazz Band Invitational and the 2026 GMEA In-Service Conference. These invitations reflect national and statewide recognition for excellence in music education and performance.

In addition to her concert and jazz responsibilities, Ms. Wilson assists with the VRHS Marching Band, develops chamber music opportunities, and contributes to curriculum planning for the band program. Her students have earned placement in District Honor Bands, the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program, and regional honor jazz ensembles.

A proud alumna of Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia, Ms. Wilson earned her Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the University of West Georgia, where she performed in numerous ensembles including the Jazz Band, Brass Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Josh Byrd and Dr. Benjamin Geyer.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Wilson remains musically active as a member of the Cobb Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Alfred Watkins. She also serves as a trombone instructor, clinician, and adjudicator. She currently holds the position of Georgia State Chair for Women Band Directors International, where she advocates for mentorship, equity, and professional development within the wind band and jazz education communities.

Her professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, Jazz Education Network, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Women Band Directors International. Ms. Wilson resides in Villa Rica, Georgia, with her dog, Maisie.
